Tragic events unfolded on the outskirts of Kurnool district as a sleeper bus en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire, resulting in the deaths of 20 passengers and injuring 20 others. Survivors, still reeling from the shock, have recounted the terrifying moments of the incident.
One passenger, Aakash, a techie from Bengaluru, described waking up to a loud noise and seeing flames engulfing the bus around 3:30 AM. “Everybody was crying for help,” he recalled, detailing how he smashed a window to escape, along with two other passengers.
MG Rama Reddy, who suffered burns and is receiving treatment, shared his experience of hearing screams and being enveloped in thick smoke. “I couldn’t see anything. Someone pulled me out through the window,” he said, adding that the entire bus was consumed by flames moments later.
Subrahmanyam, another survivor, spoke of the chaos and confusion, stating that passengers broke rear windows to escape the smoke-filled bus. Jayant Kushwaha, who escaped unharmed, expressed his gratitude for the timely opening of an emergency window, noting that emergency services arrived nearly an hour after the accident.
The incident also tragically claimed the lives of several individuals, including young software professionals Ghattamaneni Dhatri and Anusha Reddy, who were returning home after Diwali. An entire family of four—Golla Ramesh, his wife Anusha, and their two children—was also among the victims, leaving their relatives in deep shock.
