Cricket fever is running high as tickets for India’s highly anticipated Women’s ODI World Cup showdown against defending champions Australia have completely sold out! This electrifying Sunday clash in Visakhapatnam isn’t the only one generating buzz; the subsequent match against England in Indore has also seen all tickets snatched up, as confirmed by the ICC.
Although the recent match where the Women in Blue faced South Africa attracted over 12,000 spectators to the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Thursday, officials were anticipating an even larger crowd. Sana Satish Babu, Secretary of the Andhra Cricket Association, commented on the previous turnout, “The South Africa match certainly had good momentum, but its scheduling on a weekday during office, school, and college hours, coupled with some rain, affected the overall attendance.”
He expressed optimism for the upcoming fixture: “Fortunately, the Australia match, undoubtedly the tournament’s biggest draw, falls on a Sunday. We also made sure ticket prices were incredibly affordable, ranging from just ₹100 to ₹250.”
Visakhapatnam is set to host three additional thrilling matches: Bangladesh vs. South Africa on October 13th, Australia vs. Bangladesh on October 16th, and England vs. New Zealand on October 26th. The Andhra Cricket Association has ambitious plans to leverage these games, inviting aspiring young female cricketers from various districts across the state to witness the action firsthand.
“For all the non-India matches, we’ve organized everything – from buses for transport and meals to accommodation – to bring these young girls here. Our hope is that witnessing these incredible athletes in action will deeply inspire them,” Sana concluded, highlighting the broader vision beyond just the games.
