Cuddalore celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday with the grand inauguration of its newly renovated Town Hall. M.R.K. Panneerselvam, the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, officially opened the revitalized landmark.
This ambitious restoration project was spearheaded by NLC India Limited (NLCIL), investing an estimated ₹3.5 crore as part of its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
An official statement highlighted NLCIL’s crucial financial support to the Cuddalore district administration, which made the extensive renovation of this iconic and heritage-rich Town Hall possible.
For decades, the Town Hall has stood as a historical cornerstone and a vital civic and cultural hub for Cuddalore. NLCIL embraced this project as a flagship CSR endeavor, meticulously ensuring that the structure was not only revitalized with contemporary amenities but also preserved its distinctive architectural grandeur.
During the ceremony, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL, emphasized the company’s deep commitment to Cuddalore district’s development, noting that almost 70% of NLCIL’s CSR funds are dedicated to this area.
To date, NLCIL has channeled an impressive ₹380 crore into a wide array of developmental initiatives across the region, with an additional ₹46 crore earmarked for ongoing projects. Mr. Motupalli expressed pride in NLCIL’s role in restoring the Town Hall, recognizing its invaluable status as a heritage asset.
He further detailed NLCIL’s extensive efforts since 2014, which include leading transformative projects in infrastructure development, health, education, and community welfare throughout Cuddalore. A notable achievement, he added, is the desilting of over 40 major waterbodies.
