In a significant move to invigorate local tourism, the historic Chandragiri Fort in Kasaragod is set to come under the management of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) for a three-year period. This exciting development follows a government directive, instructing the State Archaeology Department to formalize the transfer through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the DTPC.
The primary goal behind this collaboration is to transform the fort, a cherished protected monument, into a more vibrant and appealing destination for visitors. While the DTPC will handle its daily operations and promotional activities, the ownership and historical integrity of the fort will firmly remain with the Archaeology Department.
Jijesh Kumar, Secretary of the DTPC, shared ambitious plans for the fort’s future, including a unique proposal to establish it as a premier wedding destination. Additionally, there are intentions to introduce kiosks that will showcase and promote the rich indigenous art and crafts of the Kasaragod district, offering visitors an authentic cultural experience.
This strategic initiative is anticipated to significantly bolster heritage tourism across Kasaragod. The DTPC is committed to not only enhancing the fort’s appeal but also diligently preserving its profound cultural and historical essence for generations to come.
