Authorities at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport recently apprehended a 32-year-old Indian man on charges of smuggling a substantial quantity of heroin. The arrest took place after his arrival from Kuala Lumpur, as detailed in a recent media report.
During a routine inspection on Sunday, the Narcotics Control Division successfully intercepted the suspect, discovering 2.8 kilograms of heroin in his possession.
The seized contraband carries an estimated street value of approximately 34 million Sri Lankan rupees, which translates to roughly 9.9 million Indian rupees, according to local news sources.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that the unnamed Indian national intended to deliver the illicit drug shipment to a local drug dealer in Bambalapitiya, a coastal area within Colombo.
Following the arrest, the individual and the confiscated heroin were transferred to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, for legal proceedings.
