On Monday, September 29, 2025, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief J.P. Nadda announced the formation of a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) delegation. This team will travel to Karur, Tamil Nadu, to investigate the tragic stampede that occurred during a rally held by actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Saturday, September 27. The incident resulted in the loss of at least 40 lives.
The primary objective of this delegation is to thoroughly examine the events and circumstances that culminated in the devastating incident. They are also committed to meeting with the families who have been profoundly impacted by this tragedy and will submit their findings and recommendations in a timely report.
This influential delegation comprises several prominent parliamentarians. Hema Malini will lead the team as its convenor. Other members include former Union Minister Anurag Thakur; BJP Lok Sabha Members of Parliament Tejasvi Surya and Aparajita Sarangi; BJP Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament Braj Lal and Rekha Sharma; Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde; and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Member of Parliament Putta Mahesh Kumar.
Earlier, Mr. Nadda conveyed his profound sorrow regarding the incident on social media platform X, stating, “My deepest condolences go out to all those who lost their lives in the tragic stampede in Karur district, Tamil Nadu. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and pray for the swift recovery of the injured. May strength and courage be granted to everyone affected by this tragedy.”
