A cloud of sorrow has fallen over Palayam village, near Chetpet town in Tiruvannamalai, following the tragic drowning of two young brothers in a local lake on Sunday. The community is left heartbroken by the sudden loss of R. R. Yuvaraj, 14, and his younger brother, R. Dishant, 8. Both children were students at the village’s government school, in classes nine and three respectively, and were the beloved sons of K. Ramamurthy, a salesman, and Muniamma.
Initial police inquiries indicate that the siblings had gone to the village lake for a bath while their parents were busy with household tasks. Unaware of the considerable depth of the waterbody, estimated at around 40 feet in some areas, the brothers reportedly ventured into a deeper section and tragically drowned.
When Yuvaraj and Dishant failed to return home after a prolonged period, their parents grew increasingly worried and began a frantic search. Joined by concerned neighbors, Ramamurthy and his wife’s worst fears were realized when they discovered their children’s clothing on the lake’s embankment.
Emergency services were promptly alerted. Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene and successfully recovered the bodies from the lake. The Chetpet police have officially registered a case and are currently conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding this double tragedy.
