In a significant announcement, Karnataka’s Haveri district is set to receive a substantial boost for developmental projects. Minister Shivanand Patil confirmed on Sunday in Savanur that the state government has already disbursed approximately ₹792 crore from a promised ₹1,000 crore special grant earmarked for the Shiggaon Assembly constituency.
This financial injection aims to fund various critical development initiatives. A major portion, ₹300 crore, is dedicated to an essential drinking water project that will benefit the towns of Shiggaon, Savanur, and Bankapur. Minister Patil shared this news following the inauguration of an Indira Canteen and new hostel buildings, along with laying the foundation stone for the renovation of Ambedkar Circle. He also reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the Varada-Bedti river linking project, describing it as a crucial “dream project.”
Furthermore, as the Sugar Minister, Mr. Patil addressed concerns regarding sugarcane farmers. He assured that efforts are ongoing to ensure fair prices for growers through ongoing discussions with sugar factory owners. However, the event was not without its moments of tension. Syed Azeempeer Khadri, HESCOM chairman and former MLA, voiced strong complaints about alleged protocol violations in the organization of government programs within Haveri district. He expressed dissatisfaction, stating that officials were overlooking him during official functions. Khadri also criticized the district police’s performance, urging Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagudi to enhance vigilance and take stringent action against illegal activities and anti-social elements throughout the district, particularly within the Shiggaon constituency.
