In a significant development, the Haryana government has formally requested the Union government to hand over the investigation into the alleged murder of the son of former Punjab IPS officer Mohammad Mustafa and his wife, former minister Razia Sultana, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
This formal request was made on Wednesday, with officials indicating that the central agency’s intervention is sought in this high-profile case. The probe is expected to be transferred to the CBI once the central government approves the state government’s request to extend the jurisdiction of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act to Haryana for this specific case.
Reports indicate that Mohammad Mustafa, the former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), is anticipated to cooperate with the ongoing police investigation, with his appearance likely next week, possibly on Monday, October 27. Mustafa himself confirmed his family’s willingness to cooperate with the probe in a conversation with Hindustan Times.
A senior official from the Panchkula police, who is part of the special investigation team (SIT), stated that Mustafa had been issued a notice on Wednesday, directing him to present himself before the investigators.
