In a significant directive, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) O.P. Singh has emphasized the critical importance of polite interaction with the public. During a meeting with police commissioners, superintendents, and station house officers, Singh urged all personnel to consistently use courteous phrases like ‘please,’ ‘sorry,’ and ‘thank you.’ He believes that this simple yet impactful approach will greatly improve the public perception of the police and foster stronger trust.
The DGP outlined a vision for transforming the state police force into a more proactive, solution-oriented, coordinated, and citizen-centric entity. He stressed the need for complete overhauling of the current working style and encouraged district officers to conduct regular field visits and engage with their teams to boost morale.
Prioritizing the well-being and readiness of the police force, Singh stated that while mistakes are natural, indiscipline and misconduct will not be tolerated. He reassured officers of the commitment to their safety, emphasizing their role in serving and protecting the people. The DGP also addressed security concerns, assuring that while lawbreakers will face legal consequences, any aggression towards police personnel will be met with an immediate and appropriate response.
Further reinforcing operational efficiency, Singh directed the Haryana Police Housing Corporation to upgrade all police stations and posts within two weeks, ensuring improvements to kitchens, washrooms, electrical systems, and safety measures to maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
Recognizing the power of digital communication, the DGP mandated increased police presence and engagement on social media. He called for officers to actively monitor and address rumors or misinformation concerning the police. Furthermore, Commissioners and Superintendents of Police are expected to communicate with citizens daily through social media, television, and other platforms to ensure transparency and build trust. Collaborative strategies among police stations were also encouraged to reduce crime in their respective areas.
In a move to enhance practical policing skills, the Director of the Haryana Police Academy has been tasked with providing practical, real-life training to new sub-inspectors, steering them away from an overly theoretical or ‘filmy’ approach.
On a positive note, the DGP highlighted a substantial reduction in crime, reporting a 50% decrease in rape cases and a significant overall decline in criminal activities across Haryana.
