In a disturbing development, a government bus conductor in Salem was formally charged on Friday, October 17, 2025, with the sexual assault of several schoolgirls. This action comes after a complaint was lodged with the authorities.
The investigation began after a brave 13-year-old girl, who regularly takes a government bus from Avanaiyur to school, reported an alleged sexual assault by the conductor, 45-year-old Chinnasamy, a resident of Sithur near Edappadi, on Wednesday, October 15. The distressed girl confided in her mother that evening, revealing not only her own ordeal but also that Chinnasamy had reportedly been harassing six other young girls who frequently used the same bus route.
Acting swiftly on the mother’s complaint, filed on Thursday, October 16, with the Sankari All Women’s Police, officials promptly registered a case against the conductor. He now faces serious charges under Sections 7 and 8 of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation into these grave allegations is currently ongoing.
