A diverse team of 30 leading professionals from Brazil, the UAE, and Sri Lanka recently embarked on a compelling field trip to the East Godavari district. Their mission: to observe and understand Andhra Pradesh’s remarkable Community-managed Natural Farming (CNF) model firsthand, exploring both agriculture and horticulture crops.
Representing NOW Partners, a renowned global alliance of business leaders and experts dedicated to sustainable agricultural practices, the delegation engaged meaningfully with local farmers. They visited Mukkamala village in Peravali mandal and Kapavaram village in Kovvuru mandal, gaining invaluable insights into the techniques employed.
During their visit, Tata Rao, the CNF district project manager, provided a comprehensive overview of the natural farming methods. He emphasized how these practices are not only improving soil fertility through efficient use of on-farm resources and promoting water conservation but also significantly enhancing the economic stability of farmers.
Farmers shared their personal experiences and innovative approaches. Nagi Reddy Krishna Rao proudly showcased how he has diversified his paddy bunds with multiple crops, enriching biodiversity and boosting his income. He also demonstrated the practical application of drones in spraying natural farming formulations, a testament to modern technology integrating with sustainable methods. Another farmer, Neerukonda Satya Narayana, highlighted his success with poly-cropping across 13 acres of horticulture. The international delegates also took the opportunity to converse with women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), learning about the tangible economic benefits they have reaped from embracing natural farming practices.
