Get ready to witness unparalleled excitement as the fifth season of the Champions Boat League (CBL-V) bursts into action! The much-anticipated league will kick off with the Kainakary boat race, a vibrant spectacle set to electrify the Pampa river in Kainakary, part of Alappuzha’s picturesque Kuttanad region, on September 19. The inaugural event promises to be a grand affair, with Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas officially launching the season at 4 p.m. But the thrill starts even earlier, with the preliminary heats beginning at 2:30 p.m. Spectators can expect to see nine magnificent snakeboats, or ‘chundan vallams’, slicing through the water, each crew paddling with incredible synchronization and raw power, vying for early dominance in the league. This season of the Champions Boat League is an extended celebration of Kerala’s rich backwater traditions, featuring a total of 14 exhilarating races. The journey of speed and skill will culminate in a spectacular grand finale – the prestigious President’s Trophy race – scheduled to take place on the serene Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam on December 6. Mark your calendars for a season filled with tradition, competition, and unforgettable moments on Kerala’s stunning waterways!
