Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has committed to forcefully bring the challenges faced by universities in India’s Northeast to the floor of Parliament. This announcement comes after Mr. Gogoi, who serves as the deputy leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, previously wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting severe administrative and institutional crises, particularly at Tezpur University in Assam.
In a recent public statement, Gogoi noted, “Several prominent universities in the Northeast, including Tezpur University, NEHU, and Guwahati University, have recently attracted negative attention due to various issues. Often, these concerns stem directly from the actions and decisions of the Vice Chancellors.”
He emphasized that these institutions, once celebrated for their academic excellence, are now facing significant criticism from both students and faculty regarding their overall functionality. This decline in performance has reportedly impacted their academic standings and national rankings.
“While I specifically addressed the situation at Tezpur University in my letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, my broader concern encompasses the entire Northeast region,” Gogoi stated. He concluded by reiterating his resolve to address these critical educational matters in Parliament, expressing optimism for a constructive response from the Prime Minister’s office.
