Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan made a strong statement on Saturday, asserting that only a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe could truly uncover the facts behind the devastating stampede in Karur on September 27. This tragic incident, which occurred during a rally led by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay, resulted in the loss of 41 lives.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, Mr. Vasan highlighted numerous unanswered questions surrounding the event, emphasizing that only a thorough investigation by the premier Central agency would bring clarity and justice. He further accused the current ruling party and its allies of attempting to turn this serious matter into a political game.
Beyond the stampede, Mr. Vasan also voiced deep concern over the persistent attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, a recurring issue causing immense distress within coastal communities. He urged both the Central and State governments to initiate urgent diplomatic discussions with the Sri Lankan administration to establish a permanent and peaceful resolution.
Moreover, Vasan criticized the DMK government’s performance, alleging a significant decline in law and order across Tamil Nadu, with a noticeable increase in crimes against women, children, and cybercrimes. Looking ahead, he expressed strong confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of the AIADMK, would successfully oust the DMK from power in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
