A significant milestone is approaching for the 77th Regular Recruits (RR) batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer trainees at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). The prestigious Dikshant Parade, marking the successful completion of their intensive Basic Course training, is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025.
A total of 190 exceptional officer trainees are preparing to participate in this grand ceremony. This includes 174 dedicated IPS probationers from India, alongside 16 international officers who have come from friendly nations such as Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives, adding a global dimension to the event.
A Growing Role for Women in Leadership
This year’s parade is particularly noteworthy as 65 women officers are among the graduating batch. This strong representation highlights the increasing and crucial role women are playing in the higher echelons of India’s police service. Daljit Singh Chawdhary, the esteemed Director General of the Border Security Force, will preside over the parade and deliver a motivating address to the probationers.
Diverse Minds for a Dynamic Force
The graduating class showcases a rich tapestry of academic and professional backgrounds, reflecting the modern demands of law enforcement. A remarkable fifty percent of the trainee officers hold engineering degrees, demonstrating a strong technical aptitude. They are followed by those with science backgrounds (20%), arts (17%), commerce (5%), and medicine (5%), with law graduates making up three percent of the cohort.
Delving deeper into the statistics of the 174 IPS probationers, 112 are men (64%) and 62 are women (36%). While the majority (133 trainees) are unmarried, 41 are married. The average age of the batch is 28 years. Interestingly, 51% of these future officers brought valuable prior work experience to the service, while the remaining 49% are fresh talents eager to begin their careers.
The journey for the 77 RR batch commenced on December 9, 2024, after successfully completing a 15-week Foundation Course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Their subsequent 45 weeks of Phase-I training in Hyderabad have been a rigorous blend of in-depth academic learning, essential field exposure, and demanding physical endurance exercises, all designed to prepare them for the challenges ahead.
Following the Dikshant Parade, the probationers will embark on a crucial phase of attachments in Delhi with various Central Police Organizations, Central Armed Police Forces, and the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training. During this period, they will have the invaluable opportunity to meet India’s President, Prime Minister, Home Minister, National Security Advisor, and the chiefs of central police and armed forces. Further broadening their experience, they will engage with the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force before returning for a 29-week District Practical Training within their assigned cadres. The final phase of their comprehensive basic training, Phase-II, is scheduled to begin on June 22, 2026, back at the Academy.
Comprehensive Training for Modern Policing
The SVPNPA’s training curriculum is meticulously designed to be both extensive and multidimensional, equipping officers with a wide range of skills. Indoor subjects encompass the latest criminal laws, advanced investigation techniques, forensics, information technology, ethical policing, human rights, and effective police management. The outdoor training is equally robust, focusing on physical fitness, proficient weapon handling, yoga, unarmed combat, equitation (horse riding), and essential field craft.
Specialized attachments are an integral component of the course. Probationers gain vital experience through jungle survival training alongside Telangana’s elite Greyhounds, participate in rock climbing with the ITBP, and hone their skills in advanced weapons practice with the BSF. They also undertake critical bandobast duties during major public events and engage in sensitisation visits to orphanages and shelters for human trafficking victims, fostering empathy and social awareness. Leadership and management modules are expertly delivered at IIM Ahmedabad, while the National Forensic Sciences University provides crucial forensic exposure.
As these dedicated probationers proudly march across the parade ground this week, it symbolizes not just the conclusion of their foundational training at India’s premier police institution, but also the inspiring dawn of their impactful service in the field, ready to uphold justice and protect citizens.
