In an inspiring display of community spirit and environmental responsibility, approximately 328 trainee police sub-inspectors from the 46th batch of the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) dedicated their Saturday to a ‘shramadaan’ (voluntary labour) initiative. Their mission? To meticulously clear plastic waste from the picturesque surroundings of Kukkarahalli Lake in Mysuru.
This significant cleanup effort, organized by the KPA’s Social Service Club, was officially launched by University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor N.K. Lokanath, with KPA Director Chennabasavanna S.L. also in attendance. The event saw a remarkable quantity of plastic debris removed from the lake area, a testament to the trainees’ dedication. Officials from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) were also present, supporting the initiative.
Addressing the enthusiastic trainees, S.N. Sandesh Kumar, Assistant Director of KPA and coordinator of the Social Service Club, delivered a poignant speech. He underscored the severe dangers that micro-plastics and single-use plastics pose to both our environment and human health, strongly advocating for a complete ban on these harmful materials. This impactful cleanup not only beautified the lake but also served as a powerful lesson in civic duty and environmental stewardship for Karnataka’s next generation of police officers.
