With many people uncertain about the correct date to celebrate Diwali, the French Embassy in India decided to add a touch of humor to the festive confusion by releasing a light-hearted video featuring its members. The auspicious timing, or ‘tithi,’ for Diwali this year spans across October 20th and 21st, leading to a fun debate among the public about which day is the ‘correct’ one.
The French Embassy embraced the light-hearted debate, sharing their own playful confusion on social media. They posted a video with the caption: “Confused about the Diwali date? So are we! But one thing’s certain: lights, joy, and sweets await! Watch our special video on Deepavali – the festival of lights.” The video shows embassy members trying to sort out the dates, with one member humorously preparing outfits for both days and another ordering flowers to be split across the two dates. A particularly endearing moment features a member expressing her excitement for her first Diwali party invitation, despite not knowing the exact date. Her colleague’s practical solution? “Celebrate it on both days!”
This festive confusion arose because the auspicious period for Diwali in 2025 is spread over two days. According to Drikpanchang.com, Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Diwali, will be observed on Monday, October 20th, with the Chaturdashi tithi extending until 3:44 PM, followed by Amavasya. The Chaturdashi tithi begins on October 19th, leading some to celebrate Choti Diwali on that day as well, depending on the evening rituals.
