Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, the respected patriarch of the Janata Dal (Secular) party, was recently hospitalized in Bengaluru. He was admitted after developing a urinary tract infection (UTI), which led to a high fever and chills.
The 92-year-old leader arrived at Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road on Monday evening. Medical professionals have stated that his condition is stable and he is currently receiving treatment.
A statement released by the hospital on Tuesday confirmed that Mr. Deve Gowda was admitted due to an infection and is undergoing comprehensive medical management. A team of specialists is closely monitoring his progress.
Dr. C.N. Manjunath, Bengaluru Rural MP and Mr. Deve Gowda’s son-in-law, provided further details, explaining that the former Prime Minister is being cared for in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His renal parameters were affected by the infection, necessitating specialized hospital care. Dr. Manjunath anticipates that Mr. Deve Gowda will likely remain in the ICU for a day or two before being transferred to a regular ward, with a hospital stay of several more days expected before his eventual discharge.
Despite his age, Mr. Deve Gowda remains actively involved in political affairs, having attended numerous party meetings in the weeks leading up to his hospitalization.
