Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda issued a stark ultimatum to the Karnataka government today: disclose all comprehensive details regarding flood relief measures in the devastated Kalyana Karnataka districts within 48 hours.
Speaking at a press conference from the Janata Dal (Secular) State headquarters, Mr. Gowda emphasized that flood-affected citizens cannot remain in limbo and need clarity on the assistance being provided. He stressed the urgent need for relief efforts to be implemented on a “war-footing.” He also announced his intention to visit the impacted areas personally in the coming three to four days, traveling by road wherever feasible, to compile a detailed report for submission to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that a direct meeting with Mr. Modi would be arranged if necessary.
The JD(S) leader strongly advised against politicizing the natural calamity, urging all focus to remain on aid for those affected. Furthermore, he raised significant concerns about the State’s precarious financial situation, attributing its weakened condition to the implementation of the ‘five guarantees.’ According to Mr. Gowda, these commitments have left Karnataka without adequate funds to effectively manage the extensive flood crisis.
