Former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has strongly condemned Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister Priyank Kharge’s recent comments concerning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Eshwarappa asserted that such remarks would have severe political repercussions for the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka.
During a press conference held in Shivamogga on Monday, Eshwarappa likened criticizing the RSS to “attempting to spit on the sun,” emphasizing the organization’s widespread recognition for its dedication to social service and its role in fostering national spirit and patriotism. He highlighted that thousands have joined the RSS, drawn by its unwavering commitment to the ideology of Hindutva.
Eshwarappa also addressed a letter reportedly sent by Priyank Kharge to the Chief Minister, urging a halt to RSS activities within government and aided institutions. He suggested that the Chief Minister should have immediately dismissed the letter. Instead, an instruction was given to the secretary to “take proper action.” Eshwarappa argued that the Congress party is already losing public support across the country due to its stance against the RSS. He challenged the Congress government to attempt to suppress RSS activities, warning that any such move would inevitably lead to the party losing power in the state.
Furthermore, Eshwarappa stated that the RSS is transparent about its financial records, clarifying that its headquarters are funded through various trusts. He dismissed the allegations made by Priyank Kharge and fellow Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad as baseless, suggesting that these statements are merely an attempt to curry favor with their national leaders, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
