Kolkata Police investigators have asserted in their recently filed charge sheet that definitive DNA reports confirm the involvement of Monojit ‘Mango’ Mishra, the main suspect, in the alleged rape incident at South Calcutta Law College.
According to police sources on Monday, September 22, 2025, DNA test results from samples recovered on the 24-year-old survivor’s clothing conclusively matched those of the accused. Both the survivor and Mishra underwent blood sample collection for these crucial DNA analyses.
The charge sheet, presented before the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alipore, formally names Mishra, an alumnus of the institution, as the prime accused, alongside three other individuals.
“The DNA evidence not only links the accused to the survivor but also firmly places both at the precise location of the crime, specifically inside the college’s guard room,” a police officer informed PTI, highlighting the report’s significance to the case.
Further bolstering the prosecution’s claims, the charge sheet includes CCTV footage gathered from within the college premises and from two nearby external shops. This footage, according to police, clearly corroborates the crime’s occurrence.
The officer elaborated, stating that “The surveillance recordings confirm the guard’s room as the scene of the crime and also depict the roles of the two other accused, Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, who were positioned outside the room, as well as the security guard.”
Investigators are currently awaiting the results of voice sample examinations from the mobile phones of the accused. A supplementary charge sheet is expected to be filed in court once these results are made available.
The case stems from a complaint lodged on June 25 by a first-year student of South Calcutta Law College, who alleged she was gang-raped within the institution by an alumnus and two senior students.
In connection with the incident, police have apprehended the three primary accused for their alleged participation in the crime, along with the security guard for dereliction of duty.
