Five Bangladeshi laborers, recently apprehended in Tripura’s Gomati district, are set to be repatriated to their home country, a senior police official confirmed on Friday, September 19, 2025.
According to the officer, the individuals stated they had crossed into India several days prior and were employed in construction and furniture-making jobs in the Maharani area, under the jurisdiction of RK Pur police station.
The detention occurred during a routine check at Maharani on Thursday, September 18, 2025, when police intercepted an auto-rickshaw. Five passengers were taken into custody on suspicion, as reported by Udaipur SDPO Debanjali Ray.
“These five laborers were transferred today to a state-run facility in West Tripura. The Border Security Force (BSF) is expected to coordinate with their Bangladeshi counterparts to facilitate the repatriation process,” she stated.
Ms. Ray further explained that the state government had previously received directives from the central authorities to house undocumented Bangladeshi nationals in government-managed homes, rather than proceeding with immediate arrests.
In Tripura, a region grappling with persistent infiltration challenges, law enforcement traditionally arrested Bangladeshi nationals for illegal entry under the Indian Passport Act, subsequently presenting them before local courts for legal proceedings.
