Five people have been apprehended in Mawana town, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the display of an ‘I love Muhammad’ poster. Police confirmed on Saturday, October 4, 2025, that a case has been registered against them after locals objected to the poster.
The controversial poster was reportedly put up on Friday night at a prominent intersection in Mawana. By Saturday morning, it had sparked significant discontent among residents, leading to protests in the town.
According to Mawana Station House Officer (SHO) Poonam Jadon, a formal complaint was filed by outpost in-charge Manoj Sharma. Consequently, Idrish, Tasleem, Rihan, Gulfam, and Haroon were named in a case registered under Section 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with statements conducing to public mischief. All five have since been arrested, and the SHO stated that further legal action would be pursued against any other individuals found to be involved in the incident.
Following the emergence of the controversy, the contentious posters were promptly removed. As a precautionary measure, additional police forces have been deployed across Mawana town, and patrolling efforts have been intensified. The administration is actively appealing to the public to maintain peace and disregard any unverified rumors to prevent further unrest.
