A large fire has broken out at the multi-storey Brahmaputra Apartments, located on Dr Bishambhar Das Marg in Delhi. The incident occurred on Saturday, causing alarm among residents as flames engulfed an upper floor of the building.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched, with numerous fire tenders arriving at the scene to combat the blaze. However, the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
The Brahmaputra Apartments, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020, is a notable residence for several Rajya Sabha MPs. Its proximity to Parliament, being just 200 meters away, adds to the significance of the event.
The situation gained public attention when Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale voiced concerns on social media platform X regarding the initial response time of fire services. He highlighted that fire brigades were reportedly delayed in arriving at the scene despite multiple calls, stating, “HUGE FIRE at Brahmaputra Apartments at BD Marg in Delhi. All residents are Rajya Sabha MPs. The building is 200 meters from Parliament. NO FIRE BRIGADE SINCE 30 mins. The fire is still burning & RISING. Fire engines are missing despite repeated calls. Have some shame, Delhi Government.”
Official reports from the news agency ANI confirm that six fire tenders were deployed to the location to manage the unfolding emergency.
