The window for enrolling in the voters’ list for the upcoming local body elections is closing soon! As of Monday, the State Election Commission in Kerala has received a little over 2.95 lakh applications, showcasing significant citizen engagement in the electoral process.
Specifically, by 5 p.m. on Monday, a total of 295,875 new applications had been submitted for inclusion in the electoral roll. Malappuram district led the charge with a remarkable 40,350 applications, closely followed by Ernakulam, which saw 34,352 submissions.
Citizens are reminded that Tuesday marks the absolute final day not only for new registrations but also for submitting corrections or requesting deletions from the existing voters’ list.
Earlier this year, the commission conducted an initial round of voter roll revision, which garnered an impressive 29.81 lakh applications. The comprehensive list, finalized on September 2 after that phase, included 28,312,472 voters in total: 14,959,242 women, 13,352,945 men, and 276 transgender individuals.
This previously published list is currently serving as the foundational draft for the ongoing revision. The final, updated voters’ list is slated for official release on October 25.
Anticipation is building across the state as the local body elections themselves are projected to take place either in late November or early December of this year.
