Get ready to look up in awe, Mysuru! The Indian Air Force’s incredible Sarang Helicopter Display Team is all set to perform at the upcoming Dasara festivities. This spectacular aerial show will take place over the Bannimantap ground, promising an unforgettable experience for all.
The Ministry of Defence shared that the Sarang team aims to inspire the youth of Mysuru, encouraging them to consider a career in the Indian armed forces. Their motto, ‘Inspire through Excellence,’ perfectly encapsulates their mission to motivate the nation’s young generation.
Established in 2003, the Sarang team proudly serves as the brand ambassador for the Indian Air Force. They’ve wowed audiences with over 1,200 displays at more than 386 locations both within India and across the globe. Their precision aerobatics are performed using the indigenously developed Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
This thrilling addition to the Dasara celebrations comes after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah personally requested Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to facilitate the air show. It’s a welcome return, as an air show was last held in 2019 but was unfortunately cancelled for four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only resuming in 2023.
Interestingly, the Sarang team did not participate in the 2025 Aero India show in Bengaluru earlier this year. This absence was due to the temporary grounding of the entire ALH Dhruv helicopter fleet. The grounding of all 330 ALHs occurred after an Indian Coast Guard ALH Mark-III crashed on January 5 in Porbandar, Gujarat, during a training sortie, tragically claiming the lives of all three crew members. HAL had also advised civilian operators to keep the helicopters grounded until the crash cause was determined.
However, brighter skies are ahead! By May, both the army and air force versions of the helicopter were cleared and resumed operations, ensuring their majestic presence at Mysuru Dasara.
