On Saturday, Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A. Shyam Prasad and Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar issued a powerful call to action, urging the implementation of a robust strategic plan to make the district entirely free from the scourge of drugs. They passionately appealed to the district’s youth and student community to actively reject narcotics and become vital contributors to building a healthy society.
During a pivotal coordination meeting of the Eagle Committee dedicated to drug prevention, the Collector emphasized the crucial need for students to distinguish between positive and negative influences. He stated, “Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders. It is imperative that they stand firm against the temptations of narcotics and commit to being responsible and upright members of our community.”
To bolster these efforts, the Collector directed the Police, Excise, and Education departments to collaborate closely. Their joint mission: to establish and strengthen Eagle Clubs in every school and college across the district. These clubs will serve as platforms for intensive awareness campaigns against drug abuse, with a recommendation for weekly essay and elocution competitions to enhance their impact and reach.
Echoing this sentiment, SP Satish Kumar underscored the vital role these Eagle Clubs would play in systematically eradicating drugs from various societal levels, with a particular focus on educational campuses. He strongly encouraged young people to promptly report any information regarding drug use, sale, or transport to the toll-free number 1972. Furthermore, he announced that the dedicated Eagle Task Force would also oversee rehabilitation programs for those affected by drug addiction.
The meeting concluded with the Collector and SP officially unveiling public awareness posters. These materials are designed to promote the anti-drug helpline and amplify the message of the comprehensive awareness campaign throughout the district.
