The National Commission for Women (NCW), working hand-in-hand with the Cyberabad, Hyderabad, and Rachakonda Police forces, recently hosted a vital ‘Mahila Jansunwai’ (women’s public hearing) in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate auditorium. This important event took place on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Chaired by NCW Member Dr. Archana Majumdar, the session meticulously reviewed 56 cases submitted between 2023 and 2025. These complaints covered a broad spectrum of challenges, including distressing instances of domestic violence, dowry harassment, sexual harassment, and intricate marital disputes involving non-resident Indians (NRIs).
During the hearing, numerous women bravely shared their experiences of abuse by NRI spouses and the significant hurdles they faced in child custody battles. In response, officials issued directives to various departments, emphasizing the need for prompt follow-up within a week. Every complaint was meticulously documented to enhance monitoring and ensure robust accountability.
Beyond addressing individual grievances, both the NCW and the police underscored their ongoing initiatives aimed at safeguarding women from violence and harassment. Victims are actively guided towards essential resources such as police support, hospital services, legal aid, and professional counseling. Furthermore, the Commission proactively takes action on issues of public concern that are brought to light through media reports.
To further enhance their support systems, authorities confirmed that police officers have received specialized training in gender sensitization, women’s specific laws, and overall capacity building to improve their handling of such cases. Recognizing the escalating issue of online abuse, the NCW and police have also been dedicated to educating women on crucial cyber safety practices through a variety of webinars, targeted social media campaigns, and extensive outreach programs.
The impactful session saw the attendance of numerous high-ranking officials, including Charu Sinha (ADGP, CID Telangana), Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, Cyberabad Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, Rangareddy district Collector C. Narayana Reddy, Additional CP Hyderabad P. Viswa Prasad, and State Women Commission Chairperson Neralla Sharadha. Their presence, along with other senior IPS officers, Women Safety Wing representatives, district welfare officials, and NCW counselors, powerfully demonstrated a collective, inter-agency commitment to strengthening the support systems available to women.
