The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is taking a proactive step by establishing dedicated help desks for the UMEED portal. These desks are designed to provide crucial assistance to administrators of Waqf institutions, specifically addressing and resolving challenges related to document management and the online uploading process.
This initiative follows a significant meeting where prominent AIMPLB members convened to tackle persistent issues reported by mutawallis (Waqf property managers) and mosque managing committee members. Their concerns primarily revolve around the portal’s usability, including various technical snags.
The AIMPLB highlighted numerous complaints from mutawallis nationwide, who have consistently reported the portal as cumbersome and user-unfriendly. A common frustration cited is the lengthy process of uploading even a single document for a Waqf property. Users are also encountering a rigid system that demands the completion of an extensive list of documents before allowing progression to subsequent stages.
To address these challenges, the AIMPLB confirmed that Waqf Help Desks will be established in every state and prominent location. The Board is actively seeking collaboration from various Muslim organizations, many of whom have already pledged their support. These new help desks will offer essential guidance and direct assistance to individuals and mutawallis tasked with uploading important documents.
In a parallel effort, the AIMPLB has petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting an extension to the current deadline and advocating for a simplified, more user-friendly portal system. The board announced that the next hearing regarding these portal issues is slated for October 28.
The board also reaffirmed its commitment to securing full cooperation from individuals and socio-religious Muslim organizations to ensure the success of the second phase of planned demonstrations.
Prior to this, a delegation from the Telangana State Waqf Board attended a South India Workshop in Bengaluru focusing on the UMEED portal. During this workshop, they requested a minimum six-month extension to the December 6 deadline. Furthermore, the delegation brought to the attention of officials from the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Central Waqf Council several critical concerns from the mutawalli community, including issues surrounding the sharing of personal data and sensitive information, such as past convictions and their details.
