The Telangana government is launching a significant new initiative to empower vulnerable women, offering a 100% subsidized grant of ₹50,000. This scheme aims to provide essential financial independence to widows, women who have been abandoned by their husbands, and other poor, single mothers across the state.
The ‘Indira Amma Minorities Mahila Yojana Scheme’ was formally introduced by the Telangana State Minorities Finance Corporation (TGSMFC), an agency operating under the Minorities Welfare Department. The virtual launch event was presided over by Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar. TGSMFC Chairman Obeidullah Kotwal clarified that the grant is entirely subsidized, ensuring beneficiaries receive the full ₹50,000 without any repayment obligations.
To be eligible, applicants must submit their Aadhaar cards, food security or ration cards, and a caste certificate if applicable. Documents pertaining to divorce or ‘khula’ are also required for divorced beneficiaries. This carefully targeted support is designed to help these women establish their own sources of income and significantly improve their overall quality of life.
In a parallel effort, the ‘Revanth Anna Ka Sahara Miskeeon Ke Liye’ scheme is being introduced to support economically weaker sections within the Pasmanda Muslim community. This includes groups like the Fukhra Jamath, Sanchara Muslim, and Kasha Muslim Jamath. This program will provide new mopeds and two-wheelers, specifically to facilitate income-generating activities and boost their livelihoods.
Mr. Obeidullah announced an initial allocation of ₹25 crore for the women’s subsidy scheme, which aims to benefit 5,000 individuals in its first phase. For the two-wheeler initiative, ₹5 crore has been set aside to assist 500 beneficiaries.
Further plans include providing generators to members of the Kasha Muslim Jamath. This community traditionally relies on power tools for stone and rock breaking. Following a comprehensive survey that identified approximately 7,000 to 10,000 individuals in this community, an action plan is now being developed to distribute generator sets to groups of five people. An estimated ₹15 crore will be allocated for this specific scheme, further enhancing the community’s traditional livelihoods.
