In a forward-thinking move to prepare for the highly anticipated Godavari Pushkarams-2027, East Godavari Collector Keerthi Chekuri has issued directives to the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) to actively engage Self Help Groups (SHGs) in managing homestay facilities across the district.
During a recent review meeting, Ms. Chekuri emphasized that this homestay program, strongly backed by the Department of Tourism, is designed to be more than just accommodation. It’s a strategic effort to showcase the rich culinary heritage, exquisite local crafts, and deep-rooted traditions of the region. By doing so, it promises to significantly invigorate tourism along the revered banks of the Godavari River.
As part of this ambitious project, DRDA officials have been tasked with the crucial responsibility of identifying and finalizing suitable homes that can be transformed into welcoming homestay options for the influx of pilgrims and visitors.
Beyond homestays, Collector Chekuri also urged DRDA officials to innovate by exploring the creation of value-added products from the abundant flower waste generated by the renowned Kadiyam flower nurseries in East Godavari district, highlighting a commitment to sustainable economic development.
