The Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO) is taking a significant step to enhance deceased donor organ donation across the state by hosting a specialized workshop for medical professionals. This essential program focuses on the accurate determination of brain death.
Scheduled for September 20th, Saturday, at 10:00 AM, the workshop will take place at the Medical College Diamond Jubilee Auditorium. The event will be officially inaugurated by K.V. Viswanathan, the Director of Medical Education, with S.S. Noble Gracious, Executive Director of K-SOTTO, presiding over the proceedings.
The primary goal of this workshop is to thoroughly equip doctors with the necessary skills to correctly identify and report brain death instances in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) throughout Kerala. This will streamline and improve the effectiveness of the organ donation process. Participants will receive in-depth training on the standardized procedures for confirming brain death, adhering strictly to the guidelines outlined in the 2020 Government Order. Furthermore, the training will cover crucial aspects of sensitively counselling families and obtaining their consent for organ donation.
A distinguished panel of experts will lead the sessions, including Dr. Deepak Kumar Gupta, Professor of Neurosurgery at AIIMS, New Delhi; Dr. Ajay Prasad Hrishi, Additional Professor of Neuro Anesthesia at SCTIMST, Thiruvananthapuram; Dr. H.V. Easwar, Head of Neurosurgery at SCTIMST; Dr. Anil Satyadas, Professor and Head of Critical Care, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram; and Dr. Deepa Das, Senior Consultant in Critical Care at KIMSHEALTH.
