The Department of Chemistry at Christian College, Chengannur, in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Rights Information Centre-Kerala (IPRIC-K), recently hosted a pivotal workshop titled “Your Ideas, Your Right: A Workshop on Intellectual Property Protection.”
This initiative was designed to significantly boost understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and to encourage both students and faculty members to pursue innovation with a strong sense of responsibility and ethics. The workshop’s technical sessions were led by three distinguished experts in the field.
Among the speakers was Jippu Jacob, an Emeritus Professor and the visionary inventor behind the “Keramithra” coconut dehusking machine, who captivated attendees by sharing his inspiring development journey. Following him, Manju A. B. from Altacit Global provided comprehensive insights into the crucial roles of copyrights and trademarks in safeguarding creative works and establishing brand identity, highlighting their importance for effective commercialization of innovative ideas.
Finally, Vidyasree P.J., a project associate with KSCSTE, offered invaluable practical guidance on the intricate procedures involved in patent filing. She also meticulously clarified the various categories of inventions deemed non-patentable under Section 3 of the relevant Act, providing essential legal context for aspiring innovators.
