GUWAHATI: Ahead of the crucial two-phase Bihar Assembly elections, over 400 personnel from the distinguished Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have been dispatched to the state to bolster security. A senior official within Tripura’s Home Department confirmed that the specialized contingent, under the leadership of Commandant Jyotishman Daschoudhuri, departed for Bihar on Friday night, October 24, 2025, via a special train and is anticipated to arrive in Patna by the morning of October 27.
These highly trained officers and jawans will play a pivotal role in maintaining peace and order throughout both phases of the Bihar polls, aligning with the comprehensive deployment strategy outlined by the Election Commission. The first phase of voting, which encompasses 121 of the total 243 Assembly constituencies, is scheduled for November 6. The subsequent phase, covering the remaining 122 seats, will take place on November 11, 2025.
The Tripura State Rifles boasts a proud history of contributing to election security and managing significant events across India. Comprising 14 battalions, most of these units are designated as India Reserve Battalions, making them readily available for deployment in any state upon request from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Currently, two TSR battalions, numbering approximately 2,000 personnel including their officers, are serving outside Tripura. One battalion has been integrated with the Delhi Police operations since 2019, while another has been actively involved with Chhattisgarh’s South Eastern Coalfields Limited since 2022.
Established in 1983, the TSR was initially formed to address the escalating extremism challenge within Tripura. Its personnel undergo rigorous training, specializing in counter-insurgency operations, making them an invaluable asset for ensuring peaceful and secure electoral processes.
