An early morning tragedy struck a residential house in Electronics City’s Krishna Layout on Tuesday, as an accidental fire erupted, leaving at least six people from two families with burn injuries. The blaze also claimed two motorcycles parked on the ground floor of the three-storey building.
Investigators believe the fire likely originated from the electricity meter board, pointing towards a possible electrical short circuit. Quick-thinking passers-by were the first to spot the flames and immediately alerted a Hoysala patrolling vehicle, whose crew promptly joined the emergency rescue efforts.
According to officials from the Electronics City police, four residents on the ground floor initially found themselves trapped by the dense smoke but eventually managed to escape. All injured parties were rushed to the hospital. Among them, 44-year-old Sheela suffered severe burns and is currently receiving critical care in the ICU at Victoria Hospital. Gopi (49), Abhishek (18), and Ramya (28) sustained minor injuries.
Additionally, two other individuals residing on the third floor of the building were also rescued, sustaining minor injuries, and are undergoing treatment at the hospital, police confirmed.
The precise cause of the inferno remains under investigation, police stated.
