Panic briefly flared at Pune International Airport when security personnel uncovered a revolver and five live cartridges tucked away in a passenger’s bag. The incident, which occurred on September 19, involved 63-year-old Chandrakant Prabhakar Bagal, who was moments away from boarding a flight bound for Varanasi.
Authorities confirmed the alarming discovery during a routine baggage screening at Level 2B of the airport. According to a police official, Mr. Bagal, though holding a valid license to possess the weapon within Maharashtra, failed to adhere to crucial Bureau of Civil Aviation Security regulations. These rules explicitly mandate the declaration of any firearm and ammunition when traveling.
Compounding the issue, Mr. Bagal was attempting to travel outside Maharashtra, specifically to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, with the licensed weapon. This act constitutes a violation of the terms of his license. As a result, a formal case has been registered against him at Vimantal police station under the stringent provisions of the Arms Act, and a thorough investigation is now in progress.
