A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Yanamalavaripalli village, located in the Madanapalle rural mandal of Annamayya district, where an 82-year-old farmer named Reddappa tragically attempted to end his life. This desperate act came after he was reportedly subjected to a brutal assault by a group of four villagers.
Madanapalle police have initiated an investigation into the distressing event. On Wednesday morning, Reddappa was tending to his cattle in his field when the group of villagers confronted him. They demanded he vacate the land, asserting their ownership. When the elderly farmer stood his ground and refused to yield to their threats, he was reportedly physically attacked.
Overwhelmed by humiliation and despair, Reddappa then sought refuge in a nearby hut and consumed pesticide in an attempt to commit suicide. His 70-year-old wife, Saraswathi, heard the commotion and rushed to her husband’s aid. However, she too was reportedly assaulted by the attackers. The assailants fled the scene only when Reddappa’s relatives approached.
The police promptly transported the elderly couple to the Government Hospital. Authorities have reported that Reddappa’s condition is critical. Circle-Inspector (CI) Kala Venkatrao confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. (If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please reach out for help.
