The Ministry of Education is championing the adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for school fee payments nationwide. This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), aims to enhance transparency and streamline financial transactions within educational institutions.
In a directive sent to states, union territories, and affiliated autonomous bodies like NCERT, CBSE, KVS, and NVS, DoSEL emphasized that integrating UPI payments would modernize administrative processes and improve the overall ease of schooling. This move aligns with the government’s vision of creating a digitally empowered and inclusive education system as part of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
The transition from cash-based transactions to digital payments offers significant advantages. Parents and students will benefit from increased convenience, greater transparency in fee collection, and the ability to make payments from the comfort of their homes, eliminating the need to visit schools physically.
Beyond convenience, the ministry highlighted that this initiative would also foster greater financial literacy among all stakeholders, thereby expanding their engagement with the broader digital economy.
