Dehradun: In a significant development, two individuals suspected in the shooting of a 24-year-old outside Doon Hospital earlier this month were taken into custody following a firefight with police near Doiwala village. A third suspect, who managed to evade the initial encounter, was apprehended early Thursday morning after an overnight search operation, according to police reports.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sohail Khan (25), Sanu (23), and Javed (30). Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Dehradun, Ajai Singh, stated that these individuals are believed to be part of the gang responsible for the October 18 incident outside Doon Hospital. The attack on the victim, Dishant, was reportedly motivated by a financial dispute involving Rohan Arya and Vishal Tomar, who had been apprehended earlier in connection with the case.
The operation began late Wednesday night when the control room received intelligence about three suspicious individuals on a white scooter with a obscured license plate traveling from Chhidarwala towards Laltappad. Police teams quickly set up barricades for vehicle checks in the Doiwala area. Upon spotting the police presence, the suspects attempted to evade capture by speeding into a forest track near Kali Temple. A pursuit ensued, during which the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team. In a act of self-defense, officers returned fire, resulting in leg injuries to Sohail Khan and Sanu.
During the encounter, authorities recovered two locally made 315-bore pistols, ammunition, a knife, and the scooter used in the crime. The injured suspects received immediate medical attention. Initial interrogations revealed that the accused admitted to their involvement in the shooting of Dishant, which they claimed was orchestrated by Kavyansh Dhama due to a financial disagreement.
Javed, who initially escaped, was later apprehended in the Doiwala region during a coordinated search operation. A new case has been filed against the apprehended individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
The police noted that the accused had been attempting to evade capture by moving between various locations since the incident. With these arrests, a total of five individuals connected to the case have now been apprehended. Investigations are ongoing to identify the sources of the illegal firearms and any other accomplices involved in their distribution.
