Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar playfully responded to Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw’s recent critiques regarding Bengaluru’s infrastructure. Shivakumar suggested that if Shaw is keen on improving the city’s roads, she should take the initiative herself. “If she wants to develop them (roads), let her do it. If she comes and asks, we will give her the roads,” Shivakumar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. He made these remarks while participating in the ‘Bengaluru Nadige (Walk for Bengaluru)’ program in the city’s KR Puram area.
Shivakumar’s comments come after Shaw had previously voiced her concerns about the city’s infrastructure and waste management issues on social media multiple times.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw’s Observations
Earlier, on Monday, October 13, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw shared on X (formerly Twitter) that a foreign business visitor to Biocon Park had expressed disappointment with the poor condition of the roads and the lack of proper garbage management in Bengaluru. The visitor reportedly questioned why India couldn’t improve these aspects, especially given the current favorable economic climate.
In response to Shaw’s tweet, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge stated that efforts are underway to enhance the city’s infrastructure. He mentioned that the city is experiencing rapid growth, and the government is actively working on necessary improvements.
A day after Kharge’s statement, Shaw further commented that the current state government has a significant opportunity to address the long-standing issues of deteriorating infrastructure and garbage management in Bengaluru, emphasizing that past governments’ inaction led to the current situation.
