The Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (ICAR-KVK), part of the esteemed Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, has unveiled an exciting new venture: ‘Krishi Yaana’. This innovative program aims to open up the world of agriculture to everyone, with a special focus on inspiring the younger generation.
The initiative was formally inaugurated on Thursday by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, R.C. Jagadeesh.
Located at Navile village, just outside Shivamogga, the ICAR-KVK campus has transformed an eight-acre plot into a stunning model of agricultural and horticultural diversity. Here, visitors can not only gain valuable knowledge but also relax amidst nature and enjoy engaging activities in the fields.

Knowledgeable scientists from ICAR-KVK guide visitors on a fascinating tour, highlighting various features of the farm. The tour includes a dedicated silviculture plot showcasing different fodder varieties, as well as an Agase plot, where plants known for their rich protein content are cultivated.
A charming farmhouse on the campus, home to a local family, adds to the authentic rural feel. It features a working dairy, a bustling poultry section, and a lively goat farm. “Our aim with this initiative is to provide visitors with a genuine farm experience, allowing them to spend an entire day immersed in rural life,” explains Manjunath B. Kudari, a scientist at ICAR-KVK. “Guests can even try their hand at picking saplings from our nursery and planting them, engaging in various activities designed to entertain and educate them throughout the day.”
Adding to the charm are features like a serene fish pond, comfortable sit-outs, a fun swing, a dedicated play area, and inviting discussion tables. ‘Krishi Yaana’ has been thoughtfully designed by ICAR-KVK to benefit both students and anyone with a keen interest in agriculture. On its very first day, the initiative welcomed schoolchildren from a private institution, who were seen enthusiastically playing ‘lagori’, a traditional outdoor game that offers a delightful contrast to modern urban pastimes.
ICAR-KVK warmly invites the public to visit ‘Krishi Yaana’ on Sundays. The entry fee is ₹400 for adults and ₹250 for children under 16, with lunch and snacks included. For those wishing to organize special visits on weekdays, customized tours can be arranged with advance booking.
