Good news for travelers! After a four-year interruption, direct flights between Kolkata and China’s vibrant Guangzhou city are set to resume. The much-anticipated first flight is scheduled to depart from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, an airport official confirmed.
These direct air services were last operational in early 2020 but were suspended due to the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The hiatus continued beyond the pandemic, also influenced by the eastern Ladakh border dispute.
However, thanks to recent diplomatic efforts between the two nations, private carrier IndiGo has announced its plans to reinstate the route. The airline will now connect Kolkata to Guangzhou with daily, non-stop flights, beginning October 26, marking a significant step towards normalizing travel and connectivity.
