Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially declare Dhordo a “Solar Village” to the nation on Saturday, September 20, 2025, during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
With this landmark achievement, Dhordo will become the fourth village in Gujarat to achieve complete solarization, following in the footsteps of Modhera in Mehsana, Sukhi in Kheda, and Masali in Banaskantha.
Dhordo, already an internationally acclaimed ‘Best Tourism Village’ by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), located in the picturesque Kutch region of Gujarat, is adding another remarkable chapter to its success story by fully embracing solar power.
As part of the transformative “PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana” (PM Solar Home: Free Electricity Scheme), every single residential electricity connection in Dhordo has been upgraded. A total of 81 houses in the village have been fitted with state-of-the-art rooftop solar panels, contributing to a combined installed capacity of 177 kilowatts. This innovative system is projected to generate an impressive 2.95 lakh units of electricity annually, directly translating into substantial financial savings and economic relief for local families.
Village head Sarpanch Miyan Hussain expressed immense satisfaction and joy, stating, “Despite being a remote area, Dhordo has experienced remarkable development under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. With solar rooftops now installed in every home, electricity bills will be drastically reduced, providing significant and much-needed relief to all the villagers. Supported by generous government subsidies and accessible bank loans, the villagers incurred minimal expenses for this initiative, which has truly brought immense happiness and prosperity to our entire community.”
