In a significant move demonstrating accountability, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar has ordered the suspension of an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a police constable. This decisive action comes after a distressing incident involving the alleged assault of an ex-serviceman in Dharwad.
The officers implicated in this case have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Vidyanand Subedar and police constable Rachappa Kanabur. Their suspension underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the allegations of misconduct.
The unfortunate event unfolded on September 28 at the Sainik Mess, a food establishment operated by ex-serviceman Ramappa Nippani, located near Saptapur Bavi in Dharwad. Eyewitness accounts suggest a heated altercation escalated into physical violence.
Reports indicate that the confrontation began when police personnel reportedly objected to the food joint remaining open beyond its designated closing hours. This objection allegedly spiraled into an unprovoked assault.
Ramappa’s wife, Geeta, bravely came forward to file a complaint, stating that the two police officers unexpectedly attacked her husband and others present, despite them simply finishing up their day’s business. She further alleged that the officers not only physically abused her husband but also subjected them to abusive language.
Responding swiftly to the gravity of the situation, Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar personally visited the site of the incident. He took the time to listen to the detailed grievance presented by the ex-serviceman’s wife, ensuring her concerns were heard directly by the highest authority.
