In Dharwad, the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) recently gathered at Karnatak University Grounds to celebrate the birth anniversary of the legendary revolutionary, Bhagat Singh. Young attendees paid heartfelt floral tributes to honor his memory.
Bhavani Shankar Gowda, AIDYO’s district president, emphasized the crucial importance of grasping Bhagat Singh’s unwavering commitment, profound ideals, and revolutionary ideology.
Gowda highlighted how Bhagat Singh, even in his youth, fearlessly joined the freedom struggle. Deeply influenced by the 1917 Russian socialist revolution, Singh dreamt of an India that was not only free from British rule but also a genuinely socialist society, devoid of exploitation. He envisioned a nation where education, healthcare, and social security were guaranteed for every citizen – a dream that, sadly, still awaits full realization.
He reaffirmed that Bhagat Singh’s core vision was for a truly secular and socialist India.
However, Gowda lamented that post-Independence, India embraced capitalism, leading to widespread suffering among ordinary citizens. He pointed out that successive political parties consistently prioritized capitalist interests, resulting in the complete privatization of education and healthcare, making them inaccessible to the masses. Furthermore, he noted the persistent struggles of inflation and unemployment, alongside a distressing rise in atrocities against women.
He argued that instead of tackling these pressing societal problems, there are deliberate attempts to ensnare young people in destructive vices like obscenity, alcoholism, online gaming, betting, and drugs. Simultaneously, divisive tactics are being employed to pit youth against each other based on caste, religion, language, and regional identity. In light of this, Gowda passionately urged the younger generation to reject these manipulative schemes, champion strong moral values, and work tirelessly to build the socialist India that Bhagat Singh so bravely envisioned. This, he concluded, would be the most fitting tribute to the revolutionary hero.
Among those who participated in the ceremony were AIDYO district convenor Preeti Singadi, Pratap Singh Jadhav, and other dedicated members.
