A tragic incident unfolded in Savaratubburu village, Mandasa mandal, Srikakulam district, during the early hours of Friday, October 3, 2025. An elderly couple, identified as Savara Buddhayya, 65, and Rupamma, 60, died when their home’s wall collapsed due to the incessant heavy rains.
According to police reports, neighbors rushed the injured couple to a hospital in Haripuram. Sadly, despite their efforts, both succumbed to the multiple injuries sustained in the collapse.
Following this devastating event, Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar has issued urgent directives to local officials. They are to ensure the immediate relocation of all residents currently living in dilapidated or precarious structures to safer areas, preventing further potential tragedies.
