Relentless heavy rainfall in the hilly regions of Kannur, Kerala, has caused severe flash floods in Cherupuzha. The intense downpour led to two houses and a local business establishment being submerged on Monday night.
In Prappoil, a compound wall tragically collapsed onto a nearby residence. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported from these incidents.
Eyewitnesses in the area described a dramatic and swift rise in water levels, directly attributable to the continuous, heavy rainfall cascading from the upper catchment areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued serious warnings, with an ‘orange alert’—signifying very heavy rainfall—declared for Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts on Tuesday. Furthermore, a ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for Thiruvanathapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, indicating significant rainfall is expected.
Officials are strongly advising residents, particularly those in areas prone to landslides and low-lying regions, to remain extremely cautious and prepare for continued heavy rain over the coming days.
