Tragedy struck Sunday morning in Medahalli, K.R. Puram, when a towering construction crane suffered a catastrophic collapse, plummeting onto two residential houses. The shocking incident resulted in injuries to five individuals and significant structural damage to the homes.
Local sources revealed that the crane, belonging to a private firm, had been controversially parked in the densely populated residential area for ongoing repairs. Residents had previously voiced their strong objections and filed numerous complaints with both civic authorities and the local police regarding its presence, but their warnings reportedly went unheeded.
The collapse occurred during the crane’s repair process when a critical section of its beam and ladder suddenly snapped. This heavy machinery then catastrophically crashed down, tearing through the roofs of the nearby houses. The occupants, all tenants, sustained severe injuries as their homes’ ceilings caved in under the immense impact.
All injured individuals were promptly transported to a private hospital in Bhattarahalli for urgent medical attention. Following the incident, police and civic officials arrived at the scene for inspection. A palpable sense of frustration and anger permeated the community, with residents openly criticizing the authorities for their perceived inaction. One local resident passionately articulated the community’s dismay, stating that despite repeated complaints, heavy construction machinery was allowed to be parked and operated in residential zones without proper permits, directly compromising their safety.
The Avalahalli police have registered a case against the crane’s owner and a thorough investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the collapse and assign accountability.
