A harrowing incident unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Cherthala, Alappuzha district, Kerala. A KSRTC-SWIFT superfast bus, on its journey from Coimbatore to Thiruvananthapuram, tragically veered off course and slammed into an under-construction national highway underpass.
The devastating collision resulted in injuries to at least 28 passengers. Among them, a worrying 11 individuals are currently battling serious conditions and have been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, and Cherthala Taluk Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The scene of the accident required immediate and intense intervention from emergency personnel. Fire and Rescue Services teams from the Cherthala station worked tirelessly, employing specialized cutting equipment to extricate the bus driver, Sreeraj, and conductor, Sujith, who were trapped within the severely damaged vehicle. Both sustained grave injuries during the impact.
